GLASS WORKSHOPS START 2012

Glass slumping, fusing, jewellery making classes

The Cairns Potters Club wishes to announce its new initiative by introducing Community Glass workshops to Cairns.  With funding assistance ( $12,800) from Gambling Community Benefit Fund the Club has purchased a large glass kiln and a smaller kiln for jewellery work.  This generous funding has enabled the club to also purchase a variety of tools for glass art.

From February 2012 it is intended to arrange a series of workshops run by talented Cairns Glass artists Kay Millet, Judy Bohm Parr and Terry Eager. The programs for the courses will be organised to suit the community needs. If you are interested in making creative Glassware or Jewellery please contact events coordinator Lone White email lone@tpg.com.au on Tel. 40537508.

************************

Cairns Potters Club was established in 1974 to promote and foster an interest in pottery in the community; provide facilities and opportunities for members and associated groups in the Region and to expand and develop their professional skills through classes, exhibitions, workshops, seminars and commissioned work.  A primary focus is establishment of a regional ceramic entity, identifying commercial opportunities, while promoting local artists throughout Australia.

The Club has published a  short history titled "Three Decades of Ceramics in Far North Queensland An informal History of Cairns P otters Club, authored by the then president and life member, Lone White.

Lone White was presented with Cairns Regional Councils Australia Day medal for Culture and the Arts (2011).

The Cairns Regional Council Australia Day Awards are endorsed by the Federal and State Governments in line with the national Australia Day Awards, and recognise the unsung heroes in our community who enrich the lives of others, and do so with no fanfare and very little public recognition.
